As an artist, I strive to represent faith in a way that breaks stereotypes by showing how it is dynamic, relevant, and alive with vibrancy. I hope that my project can help to challenge and broaden people’s understanding of what it means to have a living faith. I tried to create work that captures the beauty and complexity of the concept and will inspire and challenge viewers to engage with the Christian faith in a deep manner.”
It’s not about keeping rules, you don’t have to be good at being good for God to love you. You just have to believe what Jesus has done and follow him. Because it’s not about trying, it’s about trusting. It’s not about rules, it’s about Grace.” – The Jesus Storybook Bible written by Sally Lloyds-Jones and read by David Suchet.
As an artist, I strive to develop projects that come from my greatest passions and life experiences. For this major final project, representing faith is a way for me to attempt breaking stereotypes and challenge the status quo. So often, we see faith portrayed as a rigid set of rules and practices. It is considered to be a static, outdated concept. But in reality, it is dynamic, relevant, and alive with vibrancy. I hope that my images can help to challenge and broaden people’s understanding of what it means to have a living faith. I tried to create work that captures the beauty and complexity of people’s journey with faith and will inspire and challenge viewers to engage with Christianity in a deeper way, recognizing that it is a dynamic and meaningful subject.
“All Christians should be able to articulate reasons why they believe what they believe so that we have a deeper and more confident faith.” – Lee Strobel, American Christian author, and former investigative journalist.
It can be daunting to talk about religion in today’s society but growing confident in my art means growing confident in my voice. Therefore, it is why I intent to continue developing ways to represent this important part of my life in my photographic practice in the future.
