Katie is a skills-focused, process led maker. Katie’s vessels showcase exploration of material and equipment. Using a standard gauge knitting machine, these vessels explore the potential of knit, prioritising texture and techniques. Surface texture is integral to Katie’s practice, resulting in highly tactile, playful pieces. The structures are created using the laser cutter to create skeleton for the knit to be attached to. Katie developed these colour palettes through extracting hues from impressionist paintings, such as Monet’s water lilies. These extractions are then built up to become swatches, which inform the visual composition of these pieces.
