My project is an exploration of the natural texture and diversity of the human form, and celebration of individual identity. Our society has instilled in us a singular narrative from a young age that dictates we must strive for physical perfection. However, this mentality is neither realistic nor healthy, as natural human diversity is vast . Through my work, I aim to challenge this narrative.
Since I was able to hold a camera, I have been taking pictures and exploring my environment. However, I have developed a real passion for projects which combat social issues in new and inventive ways. This project is an exploration of just that. I am exploring the natural texture and diversity of the human form, as well as a celebration of individual identity. Our society has instilled in us a singular narrative from a young age that dictates we must strive for physical perfection. However, this mentality is neither realistic nor healthy, as natural human diversity is vast and should be celebrated. Through my work, I aim to challenge this narrative and promote the acceptance of all physical forms, including scars, skin conditions, and variations in body shape. For a long time I have struggled with my self-image so this project is close to my heart, so I hope to inspire viewers to see themselves in the stories of the individuals portrayed in my work, and to identify with the overarching message that one’s physical appearance does not define them. Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where viewers can see themselves reflected in the stories of others and feel empowered to celebrate their own unique identities.
