I graduated from HCA in 2020 with a BA (Hons) Illustration (First) degree. Illustrating gives me a sense of calm and happiness, and in turn I aspire to create purposeful work which communicates this through subjects such as positivity, well-being, and environmental awareness.
The body of work in this exhibition is a collection of pieces which includes: final degree student work, social media design challenges, revisited work created for competitions and student projects, and personal work.
I generally create work using both traditional and digital tools. The different techniques offer me flexibility depending on the purpose of the work, which produces an appearance of either handmade nostalgia or stylish contemporary illustration. My practice also includes my passion for bookbinding, calligraphy, and hand lettering which I sometimes combine with my illustrations.
The natural world, well-being stories, and environmental activism inspires me. My aesthetic influences come from a spectrum of childhood picture book illustrators and contemporary artists where line and outline is predominant in their work. It is this soft simple ‘line’ and ‘outline’ element of illustration, which defines my technique.
Thank you for visiting my portfolio of work, and hope that you enjoyed my selection of illustrations.
