Fixation
Mixed-media collaged installation, dimensions variable. 2020
Fixation is an installation that mimics a young person’s bedroom. Intentionally gendered, the overwhelming visual attempts to subvert meaning asks the viewer to question the all-consuming nature of idealised beauty in contemporary society. Distortion on reality and purpose is questioned giving a truthful reflection of a fixation.
The collages that consume the visual of the installation draw on the artists personal experience in addition to influential feminist artists and writers. Some details verge on the grotesque, with the intention to evoke change and highlight specific issues within societies standards of beauty as well as assumptions and stereotypes set for women.
