My collection Trance_Form explores the process of metamorphosis through knit ravewear pieces. Using the patterns and shapes of the butterfly as a symbol of freedom and transformation, I created a range of sustainable garments to transform the raver’s wardrobe into something that won’t harm the environment. This collection is made with merino wool and silk, and dyed with natural dyes.
I am a textile designer specialising in contemporary sustainable knitwear. My practise is rooted in the traditions of domestic machine knitting, sustainable textiles, and a deep respect for the natural world. I believe that colour has the power to evoke emotion and meaning, and I’m constantly exploring ways to embed these elements into my knit pieces. This collection is the culmination of years of research into how textiles can be created sustainably.
My collection Trance_Form explores the process of metamorphosis through knit ravewear pieces. The garments are modular and are constructed for easy disassembly. Only natural materials are used so that they will biodegrade and enrich the soil, and the metal fastenings can be re-used. The pieces are hand dyed with natural dyes, removing the risk of toxic dyestuffs leaking into the water. The collection works with what nature gives us, allowing us to feel truly free on the dancefloor. This collection is a sign of hope for a more sustainable and harm-free textile industry.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to keeping traditional knit techniques alive, while also pushing the boundaries of what is possible with contemporary tools and materials. I’m passionate about natural fibres and natural dyes, which offer a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials.
For me, the act of knitting is more than just a creative expression – it is a way of engaging with the world around us. Each piece I create is imbued with meaning, whether it is a reflection of the natural world, an expression of a particular emotion or experience, or a comment on the state of the textile industry.
Through my work, I hope to inspire others to think more deeply about the impact of their choices on the environment, and to encourage a shift towards a more sustainable and ethical textile industry. By using natural materials and traditional techniques, I believe we can create beautiful and meaningful pieces that will stand the test of time, and contribute to a more just and equitable world.
