Working the Magic
With an emphasis on design inspired by pre-cinema optical toys for my MA creative practice I wanted explore the theme of hidden geometry and changing perspectives.
This theme originated from my son’s need for glasses as a young child and his experience of distorted vision. Using playful investigation and experimentation I have explored ideas of reflection, refraction, and projection. I have used a Positive Design approach, and tested ideas and materials including acrylic, glass mirror, resin, and wood along with light to produce a final body of work called ‘Optical Curiosities’ that encourage the art of playfulness and wellbeing or mindfulness.
