Ritual Play, Magical Objects and Personal Narratives
In this project I prepare and enact a creative ritual to express the desires of myself and my partner; to strengthen our bond and grow a family. The costumes, masks and ritual objects are imbued with my essence through my material engagement and given ritual potency through labour intensive craft processes. This can be seen in the natural dyeing of fabric and skeins, preparing and folding wheat, hand smocking, and embroidery. Within the ritual – saturated in fertility symbology – we adorn ourselves with the costumes and interact with the objects through the lens of magical thinking to transform, empower and achieve our goals.
