Jason McAleese

My story is about surviving and demonstrating that determination can help overcome challenges. This is my life, past and present: no matter what life throws at you. When you fall, dust yourself off and get back up.

After a car accident that left me disabled, I decided to turn my life around by removing all negativity and focusing on photography. During this time, I lost both my parents while studying for my degree. My photography project is dedicated to my mother, who won’t see me graduate.

Through these images, I explore my experiences and those of my close friends, who have also faced similar difficult journeys and dealt with them differently. We all had strong fatherly figures with traditional values, yet emotionally distant. These photographs are a conscious effort to work through these experiences, reflect upon them, and honour our collective resilience.
