Big Ted (Hiding in Plain Sight)
Mixed media. 2020
My work is primarily self-representation, but also identity construction within culture. I believe that interior life is as real, as the concrete world we exist in. Enquiry into past events leads on to work which I would prefer to be read rather than viewed aesthetically. I select media on the grounds of what I feel works best to convey meaning. My work often begins with a sentence or concept which triggers exploration and a visual consequence.
My current work explores my childhood relationship to toys, and their ability to both sooth and take the brunt of loss of innocence. My chosen processes for this body of work are wall based soft sculpture, assemblage and installation.
