I considered myself primarily to be a traditional artist; mainly painting and drawing although experimenting with different media within that self-imposed category. I enjoyed taking photographs but generally for reference or pleasure. The MA encouraged me to explore new ways of working in attitude, approach and realisation, with the research element encouraging me to look more deeply into my subject: a search for ‘essence’. The experience of Lockdown intensified that, and I was inspired to use photography as more than a reference tool and film for the first time as a means of self-expression. An exciting voyage of discovery.
