My work is a body of wall-based sculptures made from forged steel that depicts the feeling of focus in response to the precariousness felt during rock climbing. These sculptures have been carved, chiselled and forged from straight steel square bars. This creates a contrast between flowing moving forms and a solid static structure like the association between the climber and the rock face.

We get a huge sense of achievement from overcoming obstacles. Scaling rock faces is an imposing, threatening task but is still alluring and invites daringness. Doing a task with heightened risk puts you in a position of vulnerability and instability but by confronting this obstacle we can have a sense of focus, balance and stability.
This work tries to capture our relationship with obstacles and why we look for them and what we can gain from that journey.
