‘Keep’

ceramics and mixed media

Hannah works mainly in ceramic with some textiles and mixed media, and is interested in objects and the parts they play in our lives.  She is now studying for an MA in Contemporary Craft at HCA.

‘Keep’ was inspired by family belongings and the power that they have to evoke emotions and memories, and looked at themes of home, nurture and sustainable living.  As we entered a global pandemic these themes grew in relevance as our horizons shrank to our homes, gardens and immediate families.  Perhaps inevitably, the final pieces relate not just to safety and protection, but also to containment and imprisonment – the double-edge sword of lockdown, restricting us but also, for some, releasing us.  At what point does protection become restraint?
