I specialise in the technique of repousse (forming shapes into sheet metal)

I have been exploring how to express the complex feelings and emotions that have helped and hindered me throughout my life and how my family have supported me. This project is about me paying homage to my beloved family for helping that little boy to become the artist I am today.

I specialise in the technique of repousse (forming shapes into sheet metal). I have been looking at the repoussé technique for some time and exploring how to capture natural forms within copper. It is my goal of to depict some of the most beautiful creatures within my work and use them to express feelings.

This collection of boxes is a portrait of my family. Each box represents one of the members of my family with their associated bird. I researched the characteristics of the birds in ornithology and cultural symbolism; matching each family member to a bird. The boxes can be united into a single form or can stand alone.

My practice has helped me to express how I see my loved ones as well as showing how all of them have helped me to grow as a person by bringing different points of view and experiences to guide me. This project has given me the opportunity to let them know how valuable they have been to me and always will be.
