Black Clay, Sculpture (series)
Femininity and the female experience has been considered, explored and dissected through the arts for centuries. This series of work continues that exploration through ceramic sculpture. One particular focus of the work was the idea of attraction and repulsion, something that is presented throughout our society. The work is intended to be appealing yet unattractive, well constructed yet functionless.
The series of work also looks at the idea of transition, represented within the generational triptych. The idea of child, mother, grandmother is parallel to birth, life and death. The boundary between each chapter of this triptych is distorted as with life, the passage of time building on the ceramic surface.
