Thomas lives in rural Wales. Thomas’s Custodians of the Land is a portrait collection of Monmouthshire Farmers. Family farming businesses are the backbone of Wales’s rural economy. Many of the families have been farming the land for generations, and Welsh farmers’ histories are embedded within the land. Their life is about community, culture, and language. They work, nurture, and protect the land for each generation. Post-Brexit trade deals, corporate business farming and environmental changes places the future of traditional Welsh family farming in doubt.
The Custodians of the Land collection is both a reflection and a visual description of the individual farmers and the inscription of their social identity. Thomas tells their stories in a dignified way, rediscovering the landscape for what it is today and capturing this moment in time.
