Melissa is an actress working in both TV & Theatre. She is most known for playing Hannah Taylor in Mike Bartlett’s BBC One drama LIFE and Imogen Pascoe in Coronation Street. She is currently filming for Grantchester as new series regular – Miss Scott.
As a disabled actress, Melissa is an advocate and ambassador for the equality of disabled people with a spotlight on the representation and inclusion of disability in the arts.
Johns is a vocal champion in supporting the awareness of body image and self esteem.
She features in Shaw Trust’s Power List of the UK’s 100 most influential disabled people, is one of JCI’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World, was shortlisted for Positive Role Model Of The Year in the National Diversity Awards, and is supported by The Lowrys Developed With programme and BAFTA’s Elevate programme.
She was selected as Alumna of the Year for the university of Essex 2019 for her work in combatting gender, class and disability inequalities.
Melissa is also one of the co-founders of TripleC & DANC, the Disabled Artists Networking Community. DANC regularly brings together over a hundred disabled artists, actors, and creatives for their networking sessions with industry guests.
