Helen Henman

10 green bottles….

and some clear, blue and turquoise bottles all recycled, reconceived and reconfigured by Helen Henman to create sculptures that allow the transmission of light illuminating, reflecting and  creating shadows

Helen overlays these glass surfaces with etched designs inspired by climbing plants in her garden and organic forms from the wider environment.   These create continuous narratives through the discrete pieces and reinforce the concept of cohesiveness and continuity, uniting the individual elements.

The glass is framed and contained within wooden structures, many of them utilising steam bent laminated wood which is both elegant and minimalistic yet surprisingly strong.

Bottle glass has no intrinsic value and much of the wood used is either redundant off-cuts or cheap DIY items.  Helen enjoys taking the unwanted and unappreciated and giving it another life.
