Hi, I’m Katy! I am a dance artist who also works backstage within the theatre industry! The thing that drives my creativity the most is collaborating; not only with other movement artists, but with other disciplines within the arts. Collaboration, teamwork and dedication are some of the key values that follow me throughout any project I work on. Over the past year, I have been devising and choreographing multiple pieces of dance theatre, based on movement within the workplace. More recently, my interests have fallen in the area of what it takes to make dance theatre successful. From this curiosity, I based my dissertation on my statement ‘Two Successful Choreographers In Their Own Right- How Do They Do It?’. I delved into the choreography processes of both Pina Bausch and Matthew Bourne who have both inspired my own work immensely.
Over the past few years, I have been privileged to work both onstage and offstage within the theatre industry, turning my hand to costume work, as well as assistant stage management roles. I have been fortunate to fulfil costume work with Shakespeare’s Globe on their summer 2022 tour of Julius Caesar and assistant stage management roles with Birmingham Royal Ballet. I am thrilled to be working for Birmingham Royal Ballet once again in the 2024/2025 season!
