Illuminating Isopods is a project which turns the mundane into something special and enhances the user’s experience. These lamps are inspired by the humble woodlouse. These creatures not only have armoured bodies that curl up, but they remove heavy metals from the soil.
Modern lighting solutions can be harsh. These forged metal designs bring the forms of nature inside to enhance the experience.
My work is detail orientated, paying attention to the finer aspects that might otherwise be overlooked. My process involves many maquettes, using cardboard I iterate designs quickly, making scale models that accurately represent the finished steel.
I enjoy creating functional, articulated work, allowing one piece to have many forms to better suit the environment in which it’s placed.
