Muriel Potart

I am interested in the subject of architectural spaces and in the idea that spaces are not only physical entities but dynamic social constructs that are produced, contested, and transformed through human interaction. In exploring the subjects of abstract geometry, architecture, and colour, I am looking into the complexity and multiplicity of perspectives and experiences that form within these spaces.
Drawing upon the insights of Henri Lefebvre’s concept of “social production of space”, my practice explores those subjects in painting and sculpture, where I work with colour and geometric form, allowing the construction of spaces to expand and reveal their shifting, dynamic, and contingent relationships. I focus on the interaction of shapes, lines and colours using bright colours to emphasize the geometry, challenging perceptions and expectations of space and form. Where colour and geometry intersect they coalesce to form a new space.
