The purpose of this piece was to raise awareness for several more obscure endangered animals, like the Riverine Rabbit or the Coelacanth. The sad reality is that due to mankind’s impact, these species may not be around for much longer, so I feel that it is important to bring these to peoples attention, particularly the younger generation. Through conservation efforts some of these species have again began to flourish, such as the kakapo, who’s numbers have doubled within the last 15 years, and I hope to try and encourage more people to take part in such conservation. Maybe then these species may live to see tomorrow. All the pieces are done with gouache, with added touches of coloured pencil where I felt was necessary.
