Matt’s work celebrates the physicality of forged steel by engaging with our sense of touch. He forces the material to stretch, squash and warp to transform plain steel into unique and tactile objects.
Matt wants to encourage a more personal connection to forged artwork through active physical engagement with his work. He wants viewers to pick up, touch and feel the objects he makes, to know how they connect to a hand and body and understand their physical properties in ways that are impossible just by looking.
