My project is based on the album Box of Hair by the band Cub and consists of an album sleeve as well as related materials and illustrations. I chose this project because I wanted to be able to target the area of album cover design and poster design that I felt my work would fit in with. My goal was to bring a more modern visual approach to the album, which was originally released in 1996, and explore the themes of the album, such as the female experience, relationships, and mental health, through my illustrations.
As an illustrator I have an interest in colour and texture, and tried to weave this interest into my work throughout the illustrations in this project. I used bright colours in the illustrations, and I felt that this fit well with the sound of the album, as the album being a twee pop and indie rock album sounds very cheerful and loud.
